Know that this is a very competitive trade and buyer should beware of price gouging. Tech came out and was very knowledgeable and professional. I told him my general budget and he created an estimate, including the kitchen sink. I went through it with him and he dropped out everything except for essential items including drums, cables, springs and bearings. It was over $1,500. I sent the tech away. About 10 minutes later, the manager called. He said he really wanted to earn my business and offered to cut the price more than half. I told him I was headed out for an early dinner and to send me updated price estimate in writing. He said he would do that the same afternoon. It never arrived. In the meantime, I scheduled A1 Garage Door to come out for a second opinion the next morning. They did, and recommended the same items, except for 25,000 cycle springs instead of the 10,000 cycle springs Smokey's was going to provide. I wanted to give Smokey's a chance to do the work because I liked the tech they sent out. But, I never got the confirmed written estimate with the revised pricing before A1 arrived the next day. I had A1 do the work for $815 including upgraded springs. I just don't understand why I was not given the real price on the front end and I worry about other, naive customers who may just pay without asking questions.

They were so easy to deal with. They had several appointment times. I originally scheduled for the next day but called them right back and asked if I could have something the same day and sure enough I had someone at my house within 40 minutes. His name was Kevin and he was such a courteous and friendly thorough repairman he understood my need and also my situation and was able to work with me on finding something that fit my need and budget. He explained everything had it done in about an hour or so made everything work cleaned everything up and my garage door is working perfectly. I would definitely recommend them

Smokey's was a trusted vendor for many years. They had previously replaced springs and rollers and installed a garage door opener at this property, and I had been happy with their work. This recent experience was unacceptable and has completely changed my opinion.

I called because the garage door was closing crooked and making noise. The technician initially quoted approximately $3,300 for extensive replacement of the mechanical hardware. When I said I wanted a second opinion, the conversation shifted to my budget, standard versus premium equipment, discounts and manager approval. I received follow-up calls from both the technician and management before receiving the promised photographs and written estimate. I felt pressured to approve the work rather than get another opinion.

The written proposals eventually came down to $2,200 and $2,500. Both included ten rollers and four hinges, totaling $718.20 before discounts, without a written explanation of what was wrong with those parts.

We ultimately used Gecko Garage Doors instead. They identified a split torsion tube and replaced the torsion system and both springs for an all-inclusive $834. That was exactly the final amount paid. They lubricated the existing rollers and hinges rather than replacing them, and their completion report says the door passed its safety checks.

There was a real mechanical problem requiring repair. What I object to is Smokey's additional replacement scope, much higher pricing and pressure to commit. To me, this felt like a substantial oversell. I am glad I insisted on a second opinion. They have lost my trust and my future business.

I feel we were ripped off probably because the area we live in.
Unfortunately, my husband agreed to the price without checking around. For a new spring, ball bearings and door torsion cable it was $1,850.  No new garage opener, no new door. Just the basics. We will never use them again.

David and Pablo were super friendly and informative of all steps along the way. They did a thorough inspection of all parts, not just the broken spring. The initial estimate included everything they recommended be replace. We finally agreed upon a satisfactory price and they proceeded with the repair work. They were quick and efficient and left my garage looking the same as when they arrived. I was super pleased to be able to get an appointment within 24 hours of the spring breaking. Extremely satisfied with the service Smokey’s provided in installing a new motor and replacing the springs and coils of my garage door. Dave was my technician and was very friendly and knowledgeable, and answered every question I had. He broke down the prices for everything and was honest about higher priority items to focus on.
